A Bright Solution was engaged by Avanta, with CBRE as main contractor, to deliver the full electrical design and fit-out for active studio spaces at NBC Borehamwood. The brief was clear: upgrade lighting and power infrastructure to the highest performance and safety standards without interrupting filming schedules. Working within a live, security-controlled environment demanded meticulous coordination, silent efficiency, and flawless documentation. Every task planned to protect production continuity while achieving complete technical compliance.
The project combined premium Thorlux lighting systems, intelligent controls, and fully certified emergency lighting compliant with CIBSE and BS 7671 regulations. Designed for long-term maintainability, the installation delivers dependable power, lighting, and life-safety functionality tailored for high-footfall media spaces.
Before installation, ABS carried out a detailed design review to ensure the new electrical infrastructure aligned with existing containment, ceiling grids, and studio layouts. This included load analysis, distribution board rationalisation, and lighting control zoning to support multiple production modes.
Close collaboration with Thorlux engineers enabled the integration of presence detection and daylight-harvesting controls, ensuring energy efficiency and optimal light balance during both recording and standby periods. Our drawings and schematics documented every containment route, circuit reference, and control interface to streamline installation and future maintenance.
Coordination with CBRE’s mechanical and finishes teams was continuous. We scheduled penetrations, bracket positions, and containment sequencing to avoid clashes with HVAC ducts, acoustic panels, and ceiling fixtures. The result was a clean, fully coordinated installation ready for commissioning without rework.
The works were delivered under a three-week compressed programme, executed primarily during evening and off-peak hours. Each shift was governed by pre-approved RAMS, security permits, and method statements validated by site management.
Our electricians operated under strict noise and light-spill restrictions to maintain uninterrupted filming nearby. Cable runs, terminations, and testing were completed in phases, allowing partial energisation while other trades progressed. Daily coordination meetings kept sequencing tight and documentation aligned across teams.
Every component, from distribution boards to emergency lighting circuits, was inspected, tested, and signed off before handover with certificates compiled into the final O&M pack.
