About The Project

Electrical infrastructure for secure, high-footfall training environments

A Bright Solution was appointed by Indigo Fitness to deliver a full design and build electrical package across eight Ministry of Defence (MOD) locations, including Sandhurst and additional secure training facilities throughout the UK. The project involved designing, installing, and commissioning complete electrical infrastructure for modular, high-traffic training environments used by service personnel.

Each facility required durable, energy-efficient systems capable of handling variable loads while maintaining safety, compliance, and ease of operation. The work included distribution boards, small power, heating controls, and soft-start systems—engineered to integrate seamlessly within modular units designed for heavy daily use and rapid installation.

Design & coordination across multiple secure sites

Working under strict MOD security clearance, the ABS team planned and executed all stages of the project in alignment with national defence regulations and site-specific access requirements. Each site presented unique spatial, environmental, and logistical challenges—requiring consistent design principles, documentation, and coordination.

Our design team developed standardised electrical layouts and containment details to ensure consistency across all eight locations. Materials and fittings were selected for durability, compliance with BS 7671, and ease of maintenance by on-site FM teams.

Where mechanical or specialist equipment interfaces were required, we coordinated closely with other contractors and the client’s modular building team. This ensured that every system—power, lighting, controls, and containment—aligned precisely with modular wall panels and factory-built components, reducing on-site adjustments and maintaining programme efficiency.

Secure access & disciplined programming

Delivering eight live projects under defence security controls demanded strict programme management and documentation. Access procedures, escort requirements, and working hours varied by site, so ABS developed a unified project delivery plan to keep all teams aligned.

Daily task briefings, permit-to-work coordination, and remote progress reporting enabled transparent communication with Indigo Fitness and MOD site managers. Our RAMS and inspection records were standardised across all locations, ensuring uniform safety and quality control.

To maintain schedule certainty, ABS deployed regional installation teams under central supervision, supported by shared design and procurement resources. This hybrid model allowed simultaneous progress across multiple sites without compromising safety or workmanship.

Results & outcomes

All eight sites were delivered on time and to specification, with zero incidents and full documentation supplied at handover. Each facility now operates with dependable electrical infrastructure tailored for modular performance:

  • Soft-start heating controls to manage high electrical loads efficiently
  • Roller wind breaks and weatherproof connections where external training bays required protection
  • Robust small-power layouts for equipment, lighting, and ventilation
  • Labeled containment and DB schedules for simplified maintenance
  • Full testing and certification packs to NICEIC standards

The result is a consistent, compliant, and easily maintainable electrical setup across the MOD’s new modular training estate — engineered for longevity, operational safety, and future adaptability.

Why it matters

Defence projects require more than technical expertise; they demand discipline, reliability, and documentation that withstands audit. A Bright Solution’s approach: centralised design, site-specific control, and clear communication. This demonstrates how coordinated M&E delivery can meet the rigorous demands of secure, multi-site environments while staying efficient and on programme.
